Create catch-all address

What is a catchall address?

If people make spelling mistakes, or you do not create a folder for each need to address, you can define a catchall.

This means in practice:

  • For all addresses *@co-dex.eu
  • Where there is no specific address
  • Are the emails forwarded to the catchall address eg. Info@co-dex.eu

How do you do this?

Step 1: Shared Mailbox

Create a shared mailbox and name it "Catchall@faboit.com" to receive all mails

  1. Go to the Office 365 Portal> Groupen> Shared mailboxes> Adding a shared mailbox
  2. Create the mailbox for example. Info@co-dex.eu
  3. Add members to the mailbox

Step 2: Dynamic list

  1. On your Office 365 admin page, select "All views ..." in the menu
  2. Go to "Exchange" beheerscenturm
  3. Select "Recipients" -> "Groups" -> select next display name "Dynamic Distribution List"
  4. Fill in the fields "Name" and "Alias" with "allusers, choose a user for the owner and management group, and then click Save.
a new dynamic distribution is created. Open your newly created "dynamic distribution list" and make sure that membership is selected "All types of receivers."

Step 3: Configure your domain (or domains) and Internal Relay

The third step is also located in the Exchange Administration console, go to:
Mail flow> Accepted Domains
This setting is necessary to activate the next step. Otherwise, all mail from unknown addresses "refused". This is exactly what we want to avoid the CatchAll.

Step 4: Make the transport rule

The final step is to create the transport rule in your admin panel Echange.

  1. Mail flow>> +> Create new rule
  2. Create following the rule
    1. Name: CatchAll
    2. Apply as> "The sender is ..."> "Outside the organization"
    3. "Suggested"> "Redirect the message to"> "info@co-dex.eu"
TIP: This is the address of the shared mailbox in step 1
    4. Unless "The recipient is a member of ..." "ALLUSERS" (Dynamic Distribution Group in step 2).
    5. Select "Save"

Step 5: Testing

  1. Test this by sending an e-mail from an external address to a nonexistent address at your domain.
  2. The e-mail should be forwarded to the shared mailbox.
